Decorative Japanese box from the Edo period (17th–19th centuries), richly ornamented with river landscape scenes, featuring decoration executed in gilded and polychrome lacquer on a black ground.
The piece is framed by an elaborate geometric motif with mother-of-pearl inlay. The structure is made of lacquered wood, with a metal lock and fittings.
